I have been having issues with my (HD) recordings skipping around a lot, randomly freezing, and being altogether crappy, as well as from time to time still getting the crazy timeline issue (I've applied all known patches). I fed one into TS Doctor and I have LOTS of missing packets. I checked my OTA signal strength and everything looks just fine there... is it possible I'm losing packets due to a small cache on my hard drive?

Anything I download plays back perfectly, so I'm wondering if my hard drive is having a hard time writing all the data it's getting while recording...? My current hard drive has an 8mb cache - will a 32mb get me to where I need to be? Any thoughts are appreciated....

I think it's highly unlikely that the HD cache size is the problem. Cache is more of an issue with reads only and doesn't have any significant function in disk writes (as in recording).

I don't do any HD recording so I don't really have any ideas about the problem.Sad

Good Luck,

Have a look in device manager for the drive interface and make sure it is running in one of the DMA modes. I have the occasion hickup with a drive and the interface drops to PIO mode and an extremely slow transfer rate.

and make sure write caching is on too while you're in there...Smile
sometimes it mistakes sata drives as removables and turns off write caching..

got some help from Sub in the support forum - tried some different things and it looks like the Cyberlink mux is helping out - but i've had issues with that before as well, so I'll update on how that goes...
