Offically the analog side of the HVR4000 doesnt work with GB-PVR since it lacks the required hardware MPEG2 encoder. If you're lucky though, and have Hauppauge SoftMCE installed, you might get it to work with this patch: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=36082

Thanks for you quick reply.I have SoftPVR installed however I am convinced that my problem is in the settings in direct.ini as I cannot overcome even the first hurdle and that is to tune to my analog channels. Tuning assistant keeps on giving me the same errors and cannot tune in while WinTV has no problems. I can give you more information and that is if I tune into a channel with WinTV then GBPVR show this channel when you go to Live TV on all channels and with no sound, again pointing to the errors. SoftMCE and SoftPVR I understand will only come into ply for recording purposes after you were able to tune into your channels. I have tried other configurations posted but the errors remain and I still cannot tune my analog channels.

Reproduce the problem and zip and attach the logs, and I'll take a look.

You are a legend...

Here is my log files.

These errors in the pvrx2.exe-native.log file point to the errors I get:

I wonder if its some how related to the fact you're using trying to do this on your second HVR-4000? Maybe try doing it first device. Also make sure you're not running any other TV software which might be using the device in the background, as this could account for pin connection errors.

I only have one HVR-4000, and I just double checked and its working fine. Heres mine for comparision sake:

No.that did not do it for me, I will remove the one card and see if the problem is having 2 cards. I doubt it though as WinTV and PowerCinema works fine and that points to GBPVR. I would rather use only GBPVR. At the moment I Record Analog with PowerCinema and Satelite with GBPVR. GBPVR is too awsome to even attempt to look at something else...

Sorry, I dont know then. As I said, there is officially no support for the analog side of this device since it lacks the required hardware MPEG2 encoder. These software encoder cards are not actively tested with GB-PVR. Unfortunately I'm too busy with work at the moment to commit time to investigating.

So here it is: One card works OK, you can view Analog but you cannot record it, SoftPVR does not help you, SoftMCE might help, Would be helpfull if I knew the equivalent for SoftPVR of "FILTER_ENCODER=MainConcept (MCE) MPEG Encoder". Quite useless however if you use 2 HVR-4000 cards as they simply would not work for Analog or Composite. They work beautifully with satellite HD though, records to a .pvr-ms file format that is about 2-2.5Gig/hour. You can convert this file to a MPEG2 format with one of the following very fast and free tools if you have MPEG2 editors:

Automated DVR-MS to MPG conversion utility!

or

MCEBuddy

The way I have overcome the problem is:

1. I use GBPVR to record all my freeview HD satellite channels, up to 2 channels simultaniously.

2. I use PowerCinema to record Analog or Composite inputs as well as listen to or record FM Radio.

So far I have been able to listen to FM Radio while I were recording two HD satellite channels simultaneously and have been able to record two HD satellite channels and one analog channel simultaneously.

I have an Intel 2 Core Duo 3GHz CPU with 4Gig Ram. Recording two HD Satellite channels at the same time, my CPU runs at about 2-4%, Recording two HD Satellite channels and one Analog channel at the same time, my CPU runs at about 6-12% and the harddrive is still just idling.

I have a 100Mbps network and have been able, through normal file sharing, view the same movie on 2 desktops connected through Ethernet, a laptop connected through wireless and my Media PC all at the same time while I was recording with GBPVR.

Thanks Sub for your time...

May the force be with you...

SoftPVR and SoftMCE are very different. As I said earlier, you need to have SoftMCE. Its not a simple case of just changing the FILTER_ENCODER line to a different filter name.
