Maybe this a little late in the game to ask, but I need to know. I just completed the PVR (except for the IR Blaster).

Heres what I have:

IO Digital Cable (1 Receiver)

PVR using WinTV PVR 250 input (using Svideo)

My Primary goal is to Program and record shows for my kids.

My other goal is to watch one channel while recording another, This part is still a mystery to me as have not got the IR Blaster and figure that I haven't finished configure my PVR yet.

I don't really understand how my PVR will tune one channel while I'm tunning another on the TV.

Con anyone give me a good break down or point me in the direction of one. Thanks

Unfortunately, you can't. With only one card, you can only watch/ record one channel at a time. As far as Hauppauge goes, you would need to add another card (150/250), or opt for the dual tuner 500.

Hope this helps.

...and depending on how the broadcaster transmits their channels, you'd probably need another set top box aswell.

I don't know where you are located, but, if you are in the states then you could add a splitter to the incoming cable ( before the set top box ) and send the analog portion of your cable feed to the pvr. This way you could make recordings while you are watching tv from your set top box.

Of course this won't give you any of the abilities to pause and rewind live tv. And, you will only be able to record those channels that are available on the analog lineup. This is not the optimal solution for most people, but it would allow you to record now without additional hardware.

I have one digital STB connected directly to my TV and use this for most live tv.

I have another digital STB just for the PVR controlled by the IR blaster that came with my PVR 150.

It's true that you cannot pause/rewind live tv if the PVR is aleady recording but this doesn't bother me much since I don't watch sports and don't have kids to interupt my tv watching Big Grin
