My channels have all become scrambled--as you can see in the attached picture. It was working fine about a month ago, and then after I got back from a holiday break, they are scrambled. But they look fantastic under wintv. I have identified the culprit to be my pvr 150 card.

Here's my setup:
pvr-150
pvr-usb2
Cable, USA

I did a little trial and error and know that it's the pvr 150. I thought the card finally came to the end of its life, but it works fine under wintv. If i'm supposed to be using tuning assistant, please help. I read a few different places that it's not really for usa set up. Also, i didn't understand how to use it...

Any thoughts?

The term "scrambled" makes me picture the inverted rolling pictures you get when you try to turn in encrypted analog signals. Its a little hard to tell from the one still shot above. Is kind of black and white, with bad reception? Is every channel like this?

yes it's just a bad picture, and it only happens with the 150 card and only under gbpvr (works fine in wintv)

I suspect it would happen with any TV app that uses Directshow tuning. The WinTV software doesnt. It uses a private tuning interface they have.

I'm wondering if you've run any other software that could have adjusted the Microsoft frequency override settings? Some apps use this evil approach to doing tuning. If you do a forum search on "frequency override registry" you should find some posts on the subject.

Thanks Sub... I'll search on that. I don't remember running any other software though. As a (temporary??) fix i did run tuning assistant and it seems to do the job. A couple thoughts (Maybe more on wishlist), any way to to autoscan (not press ok after each channel) through tuning assistant and import it directly into epg settings (rather than enter one by one), also a way to fine tune through tuning assistant....

I dont really understand what you mean.

The tuning assistant doesnt actually do anything. It doesnt change any settings or anything. Its just a tool to help users understand what frequencies channels are being transmitted on - which is useful in places like NZ, where its all via aerial and varies from place to place.

what i meant is that I copied all of the frequencies that i got by running tuning assistant and copied them into my epg. The quality is good again! So instead of having channel 3 be channel 3 (as the epg downloads it), I tied it to the frequency picked up by tuning assistant

I wouldnt really want people to do this (unless they really had to).

If you had to do this, it really makes me think something has fiddled those frequency override settings I mentioned, otherwise the correct frequencies should be associated with these channels by deafult.
