Well, it seems gbpvr screwed up another recording of the same show I attempted to record a couple months ago (and therefore I have yet to get the damn episode recorded). I also lost a 2 other shows because gbpvr stopped recording audio/video without giving any notice of doing so. It kept taking up space though. I open the 14 gig file that resulted from 5 hours of recording (720x480, NTSC 29.97fps, 192kbps mono) and both my mpg editor and Windows Media Player say the file is only 1 hr 27 min long. How can that be? I have no idea. It just stopped recording right in the middle of a commerical. The only thing I can think of is that since I was playing PowerDVD at the same time that gbpvr got nervous and decided to stop recording. Does it not play nice with other video software? I was also using quickpar, UltraISO, Opera, a news program, etc. so if the video software isn't the problem then something else was. I'd like to know so I can eventually get a particular episode recorded that I've now tried 2 times with gbpvr to no avail.

thanks

If its 14GB, then I'm guessing it did record but you've got some playback problem that is only letting you see the first 1hr27min of it. The only data that is written to the file comes directly from the capture card, it wont make up data or write 'blank' data.

If thats the case, you'll probably find every long recording does the same thing.

lol - it doesnt do anything like that. The only thing that might stuff it up is using some other software that tries to use the same capture device.

Actually I did a longer recording Christmas day that was 12 hours long and had no issues. I was gone all day that day though so nothing like WMP or PowerDVD were playing at the same time. I find it hard to believe that multiple programs read the file as being the same length despite its size and yet you say that it is a playback problem. I'll reboot eventually and try it on a fresh boot.

Well I wasn't doing anything like that. So I guess there is no legitimate reason for this given that my other long recording worked fine?

I did say 'guess', because I cant be sure. All the data in the file will have come from the capture device though, so if its anything generating garbage, its the card.

hmm, do you have a PVR150 (or PVR500)? If so, then it could be the PVR150 timestamp bug: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=14006

No, not that I can think of.

No, not that I can think of.

Yeah I have a PVR150. Is it just me or is that patch meant to fix recording with multiple tuners? The people in that thread saying they tested the patch were recording multiple shows it seems. I only have a single card with a single tuner.

No, its not at all related to multiple capture devices, and its just as likely to occur in a single card setup.

You'd probably find that if you just left your 5 hour recording playing, it'd play the whole thing - but you cant skip about within the file or ff/rw. A bug in the PVR150 drivers could cause the time stamps to be reset several times during a recording, so when you attempt to play the file it shows the duration as the last timestamp the file minus the first timestamp in the file - which shows you the incorrect duration because the timer reset a few times during the recording. Normally these timestamps would only ever increment.
