Hello all,

I don't have cable, digital or other, instead i have several vhs tapes that I'd like to digitize. I've got a very old capture card "ATI all in wonder 16 meg" on a respectable pc 1.8 ghz amd, asus board, and 1.4 gigs or ram. It's old, but it serves me. From what I can tell, my vid card isn't even in the list of cards in the software, but i'm hoping there's a work around. I have the equipment I need to record, ( the purple cable that connects my video card to whatever medium I choose and i"ve successfully installed the software. I just don't know how to work it. Again, I just want to convert vhs to digital on my machine. Avi preferrably, but i'll settle for mpeg.

If there's a tutorial out there that would be even better..

Fallacy.

if your're only interested in getting your old tapes to digital, there are better solutions out there (take a look around at doom9.org, they have plenty of infos regarding video)
gbpvr is a "media center" like solution for viewing/recording tv. it does not support analog capture cards natively through WDM. there is a plugin for WDM available, but it's not worth the time you have to spend just for getting your tapes up to date Wink

If you'll humour me just a little longer, i would really appreciate it. I went to that site, thankfully, and found an application called "flycap". To my pleasant surprise, I'm now able to see movie footage on my computer screen. I can't actually hear anything tho.. If you could just entertain this last question...

At the back of my vcr I only have a vid in/out, and an audio in/out. SO naturally I plugged in my rca cables. This seems to have worked as I'm able to see my movie, but in the audio settings in Flycap it is blank. Would you have any suggestions on how I can trigger a field for selection of audio in this application?

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction anyway.

sorry, i'm hearing about flycap for the first time Wink
only have found doom9.org a treasure of information about anything video related.
are you sure you have the needed drivers for capturing video + audio? don't take that for granted, there was once a german company named elsa, made modems & video cards, the last once i think nvidia2 64 with additional video cature abilities they have added to the reference design. nowadays there are no drivers for the capture part available...

I also have an ati all-in-wonder 16meg capture/display card, but I only use it for display, as I never got it to function well as a capture card. If I recall, it doesn't directly capture audio, it uses whatever soundcard you have. I think there was a jumper cable/patch cord that went from the ati card to the line input of your soundcard.
