Hey guys;

I have been having a hell of a time getting GB-PVR to work on my machine, and since you guys are such a great community, i figured i would ask for help (after searching the forums of course).

I have gotten everything to work with Windows Media Center, but I dont want to use it Wink

first, the nessicary hardware info;
Caputer/Tuner: Hauppage HVR-2250
Version: Most current

My Provider is: Rogers Cable (digital) in Ontario Canada
Set Top Box: Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000

GB-PVR CFG settings:
Capture Source:
- Name: Card
- Plugin: BDA Recording Plugin

When Editing capture source:
Source: Digital Recording Plugin
-under the settings options
-Device Type: Hauppaage 2250 (NOT QAM, although it is an option)
-Device Number:1
-Country: All Countries
-Frequency: Default

EPG Source: Scheduals Direct
All Channals appear here. in the correct order, and i have enabled them, however when i try to map them it doesnt detect ANYTHING.

I have fiddled around with other settings, but from what ive read on these forums, I have interpreted this to be the correct setting.

Problems:
-Guide does not initialize, i.e when i hit enter the screen flashes and nothing happens.
-Cannot watch TV

Problems with other settings:
When using Analog settings for my capture source, the guide works beautifully. However, when trying to watch the TV, i get a black screen and the sound is white noise (static)

Well...that abouts sums it up. Apparently I fail at these PVR things Wink Any help would be appreciated. And if you need more info from me, just tell me!

If you're getting channels from a set top box, then you need to be using an analog capture source instead of a digital one. The set top box is only be sending an analog signal down the cable to your HVR-2200. This is why you'll find no channels when you try mapping your digital capture source.

That is the expected behaviour when you've got no channels set up.

You do need an analog capture source for capturing from a set top box, but this static sound with black screen probably indicates two things: 1) missing MPEG2 video decoder, 2) channel numebrs are probably wrong (or possibly you're using the wrong input on your 2200). What cable did you use to connect your set top box to the 2200 (composite, svideo, RF)?

Thanks for the quick reply sub!

i reinstalled the drivers from the WinTV v7 disk. so unless im supposed to get the MPEG2 decoder elsewhere, i think thats ok(well...i hope ha!)

I set the capture source to analog 2200. the input is with the SVideo. (i.e Source: SVideo, External)
still black and static.
Tried the Samething with the 2250 option.

i have also tried updating the EPG, and from looking at the settings they are correct.

everything works in Windows Media Center.

Cheers!

What MPEG2 video decoder do you have selected on the playback tab of the config app? Make sure its set to something other than 'system default'. If still having the problem, then reproduce the problem and zip and attach the pvrx2.exe.log and pvrx2.exe-native.log.

I'm surprised you'd get static sound from an svideo source. You should only get that from an analog tuner. svideo should just be silent if not signal is present.
