It would be great if it's possible to rund GBPVR as a service because the window on the desktop is really annoying if you want to use the computer for other purposes at the same time as someone else is using GBPVR on the X-card output.

I would also like to see this. I agree completely with the original poster, but have an additional reason. Right now when the computer boots you must first log in to system and start the UI, even if your output is going to the 350-out or X-card out.  If there was a UI service then it would start automatically (displaying on the 350-out or x-card out, of course), similar to how the recording service currently works.

As it stands now one has to log in to the desktop and start the UI. This is a bit of a pain if you keep your boxen hidden away in the media closet as I do. This is exactly what happened to me today. My box rebooted at 4 am so this AM no gb-pvr until I logged back in.

Same thing goes for the Media MVP server.

The are plenty of utilities that you can download to run any .exe (including gbpvr.exe) as a service.

The MediaMVP does run as a service.

If you want auto-logon and you know how to edit your registry then try the following...

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
"DefaultDomainName"="MYCOMPUTERNAME"
"DefaultUserName"="MYUSERNAME"
"DefaultPassword"="MYPASSWORD"
"AutoAdminLogon"="1"

Change MYCOMPUTERNAME, MYUSERNAME, MYPASSWORD to be what you need them to be. Reboot the machine and it should autologon.

NOTE - I take NO responsibility for anybody doing anything nasty to their Registry. The above, however, is basically what I have set on my machine to get it to auto logon.

Cheers,
Brian

I use SRVANY.EXE (originally an NT4 Resource Kit utility) to run my Netgear MP101 UI as a service - it works a treat.

Auto-login without reg edits (for xp/2k3 - never tried it on 2K)....

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type control userpasswords2, and then click OK.
3. Clear the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" check box, then click Apply.
4. In the Automatically Log On window, type the password in the Password box, and then retype the password in the Confirm Password box.
5. Click OK to close the Automatically Log On window, and then click OK to close the User Accounts window.

As mentioned earlier, the SRVANY.exe from the NT4 RK allows any program to run as a service.

If you just want GBPVR to run at startup then copy the GBPVR shortcut to the startup folder.

Cheers,

Scott
