I have just installed the GB-PVR v0.99.5 I have XP Pro SP2 and a Hauppauge WinTV PVR500 MCE. When I go to the configuration of the GB-PVR under the Playback tab for Hardware Decoder device I do not have the option of selecting My WinTV PVR 500 MCE. This is what I want to have. It allows for the decoding on the card so as to free up memory and processor loads from the pc. However since I can not select this it wants to use a software decoder which is the System default. This does not work I get no Picture. How do I configure the Playback settings of GB-PVR to use my WinTV PVR 500MCE? Any help would be great.

Thanks

This is because the PVR500 does not have a hardware DEcoder. However, like most cards, it does have a hardware ENcoder.

ENcoders are used for compressing video during recording.

DEcoders are used for decompressing video during playback.

What options are listed other than 'system default'? If none, then you probably dont have a video decoder installed.

Ok, well I will check that out I thought the PVR500 was capeable of decoding but I was mistaken. There is nothing listed under video decode except system default. Thanks for your help. Any tips on what such decoder I should be looking for.

Thanks

You could try the decoder from http://sourceforge.net/projects/gplmpgdec/
