Hi There
I just purchased Tv tuner hauppauge prv150 MCE ,and I would have thought this hardware would resovle any older TV tuner inconvenient. After have to play many hours and compare to my old Tv tuner which had no hardware mpeg-2 encoder finally I realize this new product need too much CPU while playing with Media center XP ,my PC is Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+ 2.2GHz with 2g of Ram .It consume between 30% to 40% of CPU while running with this PVR 150 MCE ,contrary to my older TV tuner chipset 7130 by Phillips it consume only from 4% to 6% of CPU ,it will consume about 35% of CPU if recording a TV with MPEG 2 compression.I had running both TV tuner at the same time the same channel for comaparison a picture quality ,my older TV tuner has better detail and sharp picture than the PVR150 mce ,moreover the picture tv of PVR150 mce display around 1.5 second later than the old Tv tuner due to the complicit of mpeg2 encoder and decoder .Here is a fonctioning of PVR 150 mce : Convert ANALOGE signal to DIGITAl and encode to MPEG2 output to CPU ,then CPU need to decode MPEG again to display on screen ,That why this procedure of a new TV tuner hardware MPEG 2 encoder has to consume a lot of CPU .My conclusion prefere the older tv tuner without hardware mpeg encoder

If you configure your system right then a 150 shouldn't hardly use any cpu when recording. Probably less than 1%. Viewing depends very much on decoders/videocards settings.
AMD Athlon 64 3000, HDD: 80, 120, 200 GB, Hauppauge 350 + 150, MVP, Asus 6000L Laptop client, Asus X50sl client,
Fritz!box 7140 modem/router, GBPVR 1.3.7.

I'd say you have something installed wrong or a hardware conflict.
I've literally got half the PC you do & my pvr150 barely touches the cpu when recording & live TV is around 5 to 7%.

I have a PVR-150 and a 250 and neither of them uses more a 3-6% of the cpu when recording. If you have live TV running it will consume more cpu but still no where near the amount you posted. Something is setup wrong...there is no way I would ever go back to software encoding...not even if I were running an INTEL Conroe 6800.

I can confirm the 3-6% cpu load on recordings.

bits Wrote:...not even if I were running an INTEL Conroe 6800.

Yeah, I have a 1 ghz p3 with 384 mb ram. I only use about 3-6% CPU power when recording as well.
