I have an HVR1600 in my system and although everything works fine with analog and digital TV I am left wanting to improve the analog TV visual quality. One of the things I am noticing is the MPEG decoding seems to be the biggest culprit in the quality. First, you notice the graininess due to the compression. I've moved the bit rates up to min 9000/max 12000 and that really doesn't seem to help much. Secondly, one of the things I am noticing is due to MPEG compression it appears the B frames are dominant so you get effects like facial movements where the face doesn't move for a couple of frames and then shifts. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions, especially using the settings for the HVR-1600 in graphedit. Or perhaps a suggestion on decoder that might improve quality. I am using the MS DTV-DVD Video Decoder on Windows 7.

HauppTweak used to work for this, but not all features work for 1600...
mostly you just need to adjust the temporal and spacial compression for the encoder..
you can tweak it also by opening a graphedit graph with the capture filter in it and adjust it's 'properties' there..[they stay till changed]

you might actually just need a bit of sharpness adjust...can be done from direct.ini at top..[i start at 50% and adjust from there]
i'd get the sharpness at an acceptable level, then play with the spacial/temporal stuff..[usually starting at 0 and moving them up]
then you'll have less 'ghosting' and sharper pic..
but if input signal is noisy, then some filtering is good..Smile
