I must admit, I'm not looking forward to that. I was running two STB for Digital cable, had HIP control them both, separately, and I just didn't like it. I had a few failed recordings, and never really saw the difference in picture quality.

My analog cable splits off to as many cards as I want (might have to amp).

I think you miss the point of martin123's post - as in, when the world switches to digital and all the analog cards go away (not 'we continue to use analog cards, but connected to new digital set top boxes').

The digital stuff is really nice if you can receive all your stuff via a digital capture device with out the need for set top boxes - but the ability to do this varies depending where you are in the world.

Well I have been using GBPVR with a software encoding since the start - why not just include the software recorder plugin with GBPVR install and the people won't ask (of course they will expect support Rolleyes ) or just note that in the top of the docs -
set up for hardware encoder cards
set up for software encoder cards

I haven't had any problems with it, if fact I have more issues with my firewire from the STB (as Sub knows from all my posts).

No way. I'd say you're about one of three people to ever get it working.

That plugin just causes way more grief than it's worth, particularly now that there is no one supporting it. I'd be more inclined to just delete it entirely and erase any proof of its past existance Big Grin

ROFL - Noooooo!!! - then I'll have to buy a hardware card.

The irony is I got a DVICO card for QAM without understanding that Microsoft has purposely broken the interfaces for QAM in directShow and therefore no good PVR program supports it. Then I learned I could use firewire right from my STB - so if I knew what I know now I would have gotten a hardware card no QAM. So now I use my QAM card for capture of S-video and don't even use the QAM part Sad.

If PBS and I get a graphPlayer plug-in really working then I can use it for both Firewire and software recording (and anything else that comes down the pipe!)

On the other hand - if I add up the time I sped tinkering I could've just bought the dang hardware card.
