I think the idea of DVD chapter skip is great. However the way that it is implemented it appears to turn off all of the skip functions > < and |< >| and doesn't allow the direct time entry, minutes + >| or |<

Now there is no way to fast forward through a part of the chapter or skip a known number of minutes in a film.
Couldn't there be a compromise that only used the >| and |< to do chapter skip and the other buttons retained their original function?

On my two TV remotes, channel +/- changes the DVD chapters.

I'm using the 45 button Hauppauge and my channel +- doesn't do anything on a DVD. I take it you selected the chapter skipping option in config?
EDIT: So you have chapter skip and normal skip functions?

Sorry, didn't mean to confuse anyone. I was throwing that out as an example of how my TV remotes worked with my DVD players, not GBPVR.

Just in case Sub wants a compromise to enable chapter and regular skipping.

Got it. Not a bad idea to use the channel +- for the chapter skip. Sub is pretty particular about keeping the user interface consistent so we will have to wait and see if that fits the criterion or not.
The channel up/down isn't currently used in the DVD menu. At least I don't see it in the keymappings/DvdPlayer.xml file.
