I have noticed that on one of the setup screens there is reference to a commercial skip option.

My question is, how do I get my processed file to be processed without the commercials?

I am recording in medium quality and then processing ASAP in Xvid. When I watch the Xvid file, all the commercials are still present.

Do I have to check off "run commercial flagging while recording"

Thanks in advance

You need to get comskip for a start. Look here: http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utility/ComSkip

Thanks for the link...it makes a little more sense now. I assumed comskip was included with the GBPVR Install.

Will take a look and give it a try.

Commercial skipping is great - I couldn't live without it. You'll need comskip, as JP23 says. Comskip works on mpg formats only, which include: .mpg, .ts and dvr-ms.

Comskip only finds the commercials, it doesn't remove them. (It can find them while GBPVR is actively recording, so you can watch the program almost live and still skip!) The built in player skips them when you watch based on a file made by comskip that tells the player where the commercials are located.

If you want to convert to divx, you would need to clip out the commercials before you convert. That is possible, with comclean. OTOH, commercial removing isn't perfect. It's really nice to be able to override the skip, but you can't do that after you clip and convert.

I'll also comment that .ts sometimes doesn't work well with comskip. Apparently it has to do with the fact that commercials can have a different bit/frame rate than the show and the timeline isn't perfect. The player timeline gets out of sync with the comskip timeline so the skipping is wrong. I use dvr-ms format because of how well it works with comskip.

Can anyone post their comskip.ini file that has it running good on NZ Freeview? I used to have it running perfect but rebuilt my machine and forgot to save the file......I'm using TS mux.

Thanks in advance Smile

I will second that request as I have never had a good comskip.ini for NZ Freeview or Prime.

Looks like what you had before your reinstall was a rarity, no Kiwi's that have visited the forum in the last day seem to have a good comskip.ini  I had a go at tweaking one ages ago but didn't get very far with it at all.

Also on h.264

I can help tuning, follow the directions on the comskip forum "how to ask for help" topic.
