I've been getting some jerky video/strange timeline stuff on my standard PVR150 video recordings recently, and although I'm used to this with my dvb recordings, this was relatively new in the analogue ones. While looking for the cause (excess cpu usage at the wrong times?) I came across a couple of error messages I am a bit confused by:

In the GBPVRRecordingService.exe-1.log, during the time an affected program is recording ("Grand Designs Abroad", from 4am-5am, plus 2-pre and 9-post padding minutes), there are repeated errors regarding a failed transcode, which I'm confused about as I don't usually bother transcoding stuff:
Code:
2007-03-30 04:53:41.093    VERBOSE    [14]    RecordingFactory.loadScheduleRecordingByOID()
2007-03-30 04:53:41.093    VERBOSE    [14]    About to start transcode of: Chappelle's Show
2007-03-30 04:53:41.093    ERROR    [14]    Unexpected error in ConversionProcessing.WorkerThread(): System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Length cannot be less than zero.
Parameter name: length
   at System.String.InternalSubStringWithChecks(Int32 startIndex, Int32 length, Boolean fAlwaysCopy)
   at GBPVR.RecordingService.x92f6085038c83bb7.xcba1f05fb5a46d5f()

and the other one is that several of the GBPVR.exe-native logs end with
Code:
2007-03-29 22:20:06.984    ERROR    m_pD3DDev->Present(0, 0, 0, 0) failed
Error code : 80004005
E_FAIL
An undetermined error occurred

although I assume that is related to playing back the file rather than recording it.

Any idea about the transcoding thing? (full logs attached).

cheers,

Have you changed the <CustomFFmpegConversions> settings in config.xml?

This one is basically say it had some problem drawing a video frame to the screen using the VMR9 Custom or VMR9 FSE renderer. No real clues why exactly though. Its only a playback thing, not recording problem.

I don't think so - I remember I once changed the conversion settings for ipod conversions, but that was more than a year and several GBPVR iterations ago. config.xml attached anyway.

Is there a way to tell it not to transcode? Looking at last night's GBPVRRecordingService.exe.log file, it has the same errors in it again - between a 1 and 6am conversion window it tries and fails to transcode Chappelle's Show again. I could just delete the show, but I think it chooses that one just because it is the most recent existing recording. I will try recording another show tonight, and then one during the transcoding window to see if I can replicate the problem.

I remember one other guy having this same error message a couple of months back. I seem to remember he'd ended up with a filename in the conversion queue which didnt have a full path. Instead it had a name like 'The Simpsons' instead of a 'final name' which normally ends up with something like 'C:\MyVidoes\TheSimpsons\TheSimpsons-62128126.mpg'. Because of this, it was then failing to parse his filename to find the directory.

For him it clogged things up until he deleted this one duff record, and it worked fine after that. I suspect you've got the same problem. I'm not sure how it might have occurred though.

If you email your gbpvr.db3 over to me at support@devnz.com I'll remove the record for you and mail it back. (It might be a few hours though)
