Basically I have a PC with a Hauppage USB PVR USB2 tuner and a ASUS PCI tuner with an external sound blaster live 5.1 sound card (USB).

I just got the asus tuner card and configured GBPVR last night. I'm now recording two shows at the same time, works great! I can watch either recording show with no issues at all. If I want to watch a previously recorded show while two shows are also recording I have no sound. However I can minimize GBPVR and play the movie and have sound. Windows is configured not to use any other sound device for playback so I'm not sure if the default is changing within GBPVR or if it is something else all together.

What is your audio renderer set to in GBPVR?

Reproduce the problem and zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

my renderer was set as system default. I manually set it as my sound card and it didnt change the result. I uploaded my log files too.

Have you tried selecting audio decoders other than 'system default' on the playback tab of the config app?

ok, good news, I have it all working right now. The biggest problem I had without knowing it was that shows were recording in the background when I was trying to troubleshoot. The GBPVR Recording service was hung trying to stop but I was still able to play with config however it wasnt really saving the changes properly. I could press ok after changing the decoder and it would change back automatically when I went back in. I checked the service and it was still stopping and I couldnt force the service to stop because it was hung. I set the service to start manually rather than automatically (so I can change config first with no fears of recording service starting) then restarted my computer. After the PC was back to the desktop I started the try icon and went into config. I set the default renderer to SB Live 5.1 and my decoder to the MPEG decoder and when I pressed ok the recorder service started automatically resuming the recording of the two shows. I can watch either of the still recording shows or the previously recorded shows.

Thanks for the ideas guys, it would have taken a while for me to try and change the decoder since there doesnt seem to be a reason I would need to.

Cheers!

You just never know what windows is going to pick on any given day. That's why sub always tells people to not use the system default. A good way to debug what windows picks is to use graphedit and open up the lastgraph.grf file in the gbpvr dir. That will show you a directshow graph of what decoders renderers, etc are in place. You can modify properties of some of the various filters.
