Hey I've got a set top box with a RF cable coming from the OUT TO TV to the TV INput on my PVR-150. I want to record something that is going to be on later tonight and do not wish to use the GB PVR to browse or tune channels. How should I set up my settings?? Im obviously going to choose FIXED CHANNEL, EXTERNAL TUNER but what TUNING do i use: CABLE or ANTENNA??? Also, how am i suppose ot know what the constant channel is suppose to be??? the STB will do the tuning i just want the GB PVR to record.. do i have to download the dish network EPG if im not even going to be tuning with GB PVR/?? i dont get it..

Why dont you just use the Hauppauge WinTV2000 software? Its much better suited to what you want to do. It wont require you to have any EPG etc.

You are not using your PVR-150 to it's full potential, you might as well just use a VCR. However, if you want to utilize your PVR150, why not get an inexpensive cable splitter and connect one half to your TV and the other half to your PVR-150's cable-in. Then you can use the builtin tuner to tune in to channels, now you can use GBPVR to actually control your recordings. The WIKI is good place to start if you want to learn about GBPVR http://www.gbpvr.com/pmwiki

I'm guessing that you're looking for a quick one-time recording session? Most cable boxes output on channel 3 or 4. It should be marked on it somewhere or you can check the channel you normally put the TV on to watch the box. If the box has line outputs (yellow, red, white) that will yield better quality.

On VHF ch2- ch13, Cable and Antenna use the same tuning parameters, so it doesn't matter.

After you set up the capture device, just set up a manual recording on the correct channel to match the box output. (Put the box on the channel that you want to record and set GB-PVR to channel 3, assuming the box uses channel 3)

You can set up the capture device on a fixed channel, external (line in), or just pick Cable or Antenna and add several channels manually. (make sure you add 3 and 4 or whatever the box uses) If you're not in the USA then the box may use a UHF channel.

also, some sites like titanTV work with the scheduler software so you can look at the program guide online then click record and it will set up the recording for you with the winTV scheduler.

but in general, GB-PVR is supposed to replace your set top box (or at least make it so you dont have to deal with it), GB-PVR can use the IR blaster that came with your PVR150 to change the channel on your dish STB. This is the reason you need to download the program guide for GB-PVR.

the whole idea here is you can set up a show to record every week, and GB-PVR will wake the machine up, change the channel on the STB, record the show, and optionally; detect where commercials are, remove them, transcode the recording into a different format... turn on your lights (not joking, look at the homeseer plugin, but it requires stuff in your house)

Good luck!
