Hi,

I'm running 1.0.8 and would like to set up a client that runs on a laptop. I need some help with which dirs I should share and how to set them up.

The server runs fine on a pc. Do I need to change anything on that? Which dirs do I share?

On the client, I can view video files if I set the video library dir to a share on the desktop.
However I cannot view the tv guide or live tv from the client. I assume its just some share that need setting up. I cant find any help in the wiki so can you guys help please???
Thanks
Alan

You need to share the gbpvr-dir, for access to the database, and you need to share the dir for recording, the dir for the livetv buffer, and any other dir you want to use through your client.
I think that should do it. Don't forget to install a mpeg decoder.
For most people streaming works better than filesharing.

Can I use the 1.08 client on a server running 99.12? If so, I tried the advice you gave about firewalls and shares and it did not work. I tried to run the gbpvr in the new version and it says initializing and disappears. I try to use the PVRX2 in the new version and it brings up some exception error and never opens. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

third tab in config
bottom half of page
tick box use this machine as client
if wireless you will only be able to use file sharing (well unless you have special powers)

update
i had 99.12 on my laptop thought it was 1.08
streaming now works with wireless Big Grin
so i can watch live tv

then you need to map your folder to your server machine
share your data base \\"server name goes here"\gbpvr (i have gbpvr folder shared)
make sure you have set your server machine to allow folders to be changed by network users and all folders required are shared

I do have wireless and I am the administrator so, I should have priviledges. So, I need to map a folder on my server machine that references my laptop then? If so, what do I need to place in the folder from my laptop on the server machine? On the laptop client it has a blank box that says "server", what goes in that blank?
I look forward to your response.
Thanks again for the help,

server name i use the name of that computer on the network
my case "lounge"
make them the same on both

i turned off all firewalls (Do this then turn them back on after if you want once you know its going then you can work out what needs to be accessed)

this picture shows my settings

ps ignore the tuner settings they are not used in the client setup

one more thing is check on client machine open config file on client machine find the entry below and check that this matches your server machine location in my case "lounge"
<RecordingServiceLocation>tcp://Lounge:7968/RecordingRemote</RecordingServiceLocation>
