Hi

I had a brief play with ML2 in the hope of getting music visualisations to work.

I cannot use the built in standard music player as this only puts the visualisation window full screen after a timeout which lasts nearly to the end of the track. When the track finishes the visualisation is replaced by a screen saver. Very annoying as the built in music player is all the while taunting the me with a tiny visualisation window in the menu screen.

Anyway. It seems ML2 is really designed for MP3 type files which have been tagged. My collection of wav files is untagged and relies on directory structure.

Is there any way of making ML2 understand Wav files. The ML2 app has a box for file types. On my setup it is greyed out and so I cannot add .wav files (even if the app undertood them).

The main difference for ML2 over most of the other GBPVR music players is that it doesn't care about the directory structure.

I am unlikely at this stage to start using a directory structure as well for music...although I know things like winamp use a mis of both.

I know that Music Albums, Music Player plugins: http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki are directory based. ( http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Plugin/MusicPlayer http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Plugin/MusicAlbums http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Plugin/MusicAlbumsII )

Sorry, but this is a fundamental shift away from what ML2 was intended to do.

Many thanks for the reply psycik.

Maybe I'll have to ask sub to have a look at making visualisations and the screen saver work better together in the built in music app.

If you were to change your WAV's into MP3 files, some MP3 tag editors might help to get some information from the directory structure semi-automatically into MP3 tags.

Many thanks Pz1.

Id really like to stick to having my music as .wav files.

I've spent ages setting my system up so I can get bit perfect music playback at 44.1KHz using GBPVR. This makes wav files sound much better than when they get resampled to 48KHz - and the difference is huge.

All of the mp3s I've ever listened to have compression artifacts that I would'nt be able to live with.

Have considered compression to FLAC but this format is not well supported in GBPVR.

Hi Psycik

Thinking on about using your app to play wav files. Given that the existing built in music player already has the capability of forming a "collection" from directory structure - would it be possible (easy) to use the built in music player to populate the gbpvr database, and then have your app simply copy the data from this into whatever database structure your app uses (as a colelction). Presumably all the needed data is in the GBPVR database??? This might be much easier to implement than changing the collection gathering mechanism used in your app.

Subs music player doesn't use a DB, or else it would have been that simple. His reads the file structure directly.

I'll give the dynamic read some more thought.....but it would probably take me a bit to implement and may be some time away.

I'm looking at ML3 for the new Direct#d version of gbpvr (pvrx2) so that's taking a fair bit of time.

Many thanks Psycik.

I dont think Sub has much interest in the built in music player. I think I read somewhere that he rarely uses GBPVR for music. This is a shame as having a single program for all HTPC use is just what is needed.
