I have a fanned 2400pro, and if the Catalyst Overdrive screen can be believed it is always around 30-35C in what is lately an 80-ish degree F room. It's quiet too, imo. My other computer has a BFG 7600GT, and watching tough video (or playing a game) on that thing when the fan kicks in it sounds like a small vacuum cleaner.

I don't even know what the gpu on my 2400 is doing anymore. I have mpeg acceleration disabled, have acceleration buttons unchecked in the decoders, it's clearly using the deinterlacing method I set in the decoder I'm currently using (Bitcontrol, and tried others that have those settings available), yet the gpu is trying to do most/all the work and the cpu sits around 20% with 1080i mpeg2. Filmed 1080i looks very good. Deinterlacing video-based 1080i is rough.

Unlike most people, I'm now trying to get the card to do less work and make the cpu do more since the card maxes out on anything more than blend-bob deinterlacing. Stoopid computers.

Stu, some of the avsforum registry tweaks may have fixed/added the 50hz stuff you mentioned. Not sure. I know they added something like that, but it might be weirdo frames-per-second options I'm thinking of.

Sorry, I am unable to upload any files at the moment... will trry again latter.

I can only get PVRX2 to work with the drivers installed on the disk supplied by GeCube, using any other drievrs resuklts in a error message "System does not support VMR9".

Using the supplied drivers PVRX2 loads but the main menu and TV guid all appear to be 'corrupt'. The best way to descibe this is that their is random horizontal lines over the text, and the same line of text appears many times. Within the main screen menu, the items on the list (Watch TV, Play movies, TV Guid, etc...) are unreadable.

The card plays games and movies using PowerDVD without any issues like those above.

I have tried using different skins to check if this was the problem, but allas jsut the same results.

On a note, the GBPVR.exe works fine!

I have reinstalled XP SP2 from fresh
Reinstalled DX9c.

I have also discovered that when runing the DX9 diaxlg application, I am unable to run any ofthe Direct3D test..... possibly related.

It'll be a video driver related thing rather than a PVRX2 bug - otherwise we'd be getting other reports of it.

Thats is possible, the ATI support for the drivers for the 2X00 series of cards are cr@p.

Apparently new drivers are due out within the next few days, hopefully these might help!

Thanks

I'm using a GeCube 2400Pro AGP too and don't have any of the problems you mention so it may be a dodgy card or a conflict with some other hardware. CCC reports the following driver versions (using the drivers provided on CD):

Driver Packaging Version 8.40-070703a-049934E-ITC
Provider ATI Technologies Inc.
2D Driver Version 6.14.10.6715
2D Driver File Path System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Video/{88F078BC-0BD8-44E6-848C-BB97BB552E7F}/0000
Direct3D Version 6.14.10.0517
OpenGL Version 6.14.10.6733
Catalyst® Control Center Version 2007.0703.2140.36865

DXDiag reports DirectX version 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

The only issue I'm having is when the PC wakes automatically from standby (for a scheduled task) it doesn't turn the monitors on. I have to click the mouse somewhere for them to wake up. That may or may not be related to the video card/driver but I'm hoping new drivers might sort it out.

Cheers
Tony

I did try installing later drivers from the ATI site a while ago but at the time you had to do some tweaking to get them to recognise these cards (adding the device IDs to the inf files, etc). If I try to install them I just get an error (no compatible hardware found). I think I tried 7.8 and 7.9 with the same results so I'm waiting for the new drivers to be released.

I'm using the ffdshow video decoder at the moment but have also used the ATI decoder and a few others with none of the symptoms you mention. I'm using the CyberLink Mux (5.0.1307) although that shouldn't affect the display of menus, etc.

Just out of interest, does you're hardware information (from CCC) match the following:

Graphics Card Manufacturer Powered by ATI
Graphics Chipset ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO AGP
Device ID 94C4
Vendor 1002
Subsystem ID 0028
Subsystem Vendor ID 18BC
Bus Type AGP
Current Bus Setting AGP 8X
BIOS Version 010.051.000.001
BIOS Part Number 113-AB28602-100-IT
BIOS Date 2007/07/06
Memory Size 256 MB
Memory Type DDR2
Core Clock in MHz 525 MHz
Memory Clock in MHz 390 MHz
Primary Display No
