Over the weekend I replaced my MVP with a dedicated HTPC. It works great except for as the topic title says -- I cannot view ATSC programs while it is recording. I have tried both the dvr-ms format and the cyberlink mux to no avail. The former does not play at all, and the latter is so choppy that it is unbearable. I have also tried a number of different playback codecs, but have settled on the MPV / MPA combination.

Some other relevant specs:
-> See server specs in my sig.
-> Client PC is a AMD X2 5000+ w/ 2 gig DDR2 800 RAM & ATi x1250 onboard video.
-> Television is an old 27" Trinitron over s-video
-> 100 Mbit connection between client and server. It should be gigE (not sure why - bad cable maybe?)

Once the recording has finished, playback works fine.

Data point - I can easily chase play ATSC recordings _on my HTPC_, but have not been able to reliably do so from a GB-PVR client. I have only tried ms-dvr. HTPC is an AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200, connection is 802.11g wireless. I always attributed it to a bandwidth issue.

It may well be possible but I haven't been inclined to pursue it.

Unfortunately no.

Its not possible with the dvr-ms mux, due to shared memory that Microsoft use for telling other applications how long the file is. This shared memory is only accessible on the machine doing the recording.

The Cyberlink/ATI muxes have a chance at working, but unfortunately wont work well enough with high def content.

I am using ATI mux on high def content via a HDHomerun(clear qam) and am able to view it on a client with pretty good results. It may be worth a try to see if it works for you. I could never get the Cyberlink muxes to work. Using Cyberlink I got stuttering and freezing.
