Hello,
I'm running into an issue when watching recorded shows...for some reason the video will skip ahead, almost like it is being fast forwarded. I will rewind the video to see if the video will play normally in these "fast-forwarded" spots but it will only show the same speedy gonzales fast forwarding. I don't have commercial skipping on. Any suggestions?

Hi Sub,
No, I get the same result...it's skipping ahead in the media player as well. Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Was it recorded from the digital or analog side of your HVR1600?

I'm not really sure. It sounds like the timestamp on PVR150/500 devices (http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=14006), but I'm not aware of this also effecting HVR1600 users.

You could try playing one of these recordings in a non-directshow based player, like VLC, to make sure doubley sure its not something screwy about the directshow playback components on your machine. Otherwise it sounds like the hardware encoder on your HVR1600 is producing broken MPEG2 streams.

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but this is exactly the same problem I've been occasionally having for a long time.

It's not a playback issue, the information is simply missing from the file. The entire show from start to finish will be recorded, but the parts with missing frames appear to be fast forwarding. So a 30 minute show's recording might only be 20 minutes long, and the file size will be 33% smaller than normal.

I've had the timestamp issue with my 150 in the past, and that's something completely different. Could this issue possibly have something to do with some sort of a buffer problem? Like perhaps while it's trying to record I'm using my computer heavily and it just can't keep up with the recording? But, I swear it's happened on many recordings where I wasn't even using my computer.

I have two different capture cards, a 150 and an 1800. I'll have to keep my eye on the logs and see if maybe just one or both are doing it.

I'm not aware of any other causes being reported in the past, so I'm sure it'll be the PVR150 timestamp error. With analog sources the app doesnt really touch the data, it goes pretty much straight from the card encoder to disk.

I was seeing this occasionally with my PVR-150, but mostly if I was using the PC while it was recording. I set the Windows system properties processor scheduling to use best performance for background services and I haven't seen it happen since. (Control Panel -> System -> Advanced Tab -> Performance Settings -> Advanced Tab -> Processor Scheduling)

I've been seeing this or something similar on my PVR-150 recordings too, but only in the last year or so. Mine's not as bad... it seems to do the fast forward thing for about 1 or 2 seconds, skipping through what appears to be about 5-10 seconds of video. It might happen once or twice in a recording.

What's most strange about it is that I used the 150 for a couple years and never saw the problem, and I hadn't updated drivers in ages, so my gut tells me its either the hardware starting to fail, or the PC/OS is doing something strange. I've wondered if it's something an OS patch introduced too.

In any event it's annoying enough that I recently tried re-installing new 150 drivers which I hadn't touched since the PVR-150 timestamp issue was corrected in beta. However, no luck - it still happens some. I'm going to try HarryH3's suggestion and see if that makes any difference.
