A question came up in another thread about a guide for transcoding, I've got a good handle on the auto transcoding in the configuration (I typically transcode everything to Video iPod to watch on the daily commute). But I only actually transfer a small portion of all the video I record to the iPod/iPhone.

Recently a new option appeared in the Record Season sub-screen for Transcoding (can't remember which version, I think the first 1.x.x). How does this option work? Does it put new entries into the transcode queue? When are they processed? Does it delete the original recording? Does it update the database to point to the new recording? Does it just take these settings from the Processing tab for Auto-Conversion?

Ideally I would like to use Auto-Conversion to transcode everything to xvid, remove the mpg and update the database, and use the new feature to transcode select season recordings to iPodVideo in a separate location.

Hi there.

Sorry to bring up such an old thread but I'd like to know if this feature works now. It would be great if it did. I have three different batch files I use to encode shows depending on aspect ratio. I need to encode different shows to different resolutions using the various batch files. At the moment I use the config app processing options to transcode them all to 4:3 avi and any that I don't want to be 4:3 I have to delete the avi files and reencode the MPEGs - not too efficient!

Can I use this? Would it follow the processing options in the config app re deleting recordings etc? Is there any way to change it from looking at the recurring recordings at a later stage? <-- I have loads of recurring recordings setup and I'd rather add this option to them than have to cancel them all and recreate them.

Hopefully I've given enough info to get over what I want to do. Sorry to ask so much in one go!

Thanks very much.

No. There has been no new releases since that post. It was only a few weeks ago, so nothing has changed on that front.

D'OH! I saw the member's "Join date" (2005) and assumed that was the date of the post! Sorry for wasting your time. I hope it gets sorted though as that would be a REALLY useful feature and would save a hell of a lot of mine *and the CPU's) time!

Cheers. Keep up the great work

Ooh, I forgot to add. If you do make that feature work as a patch and need someone to test it out, let me know.
