Apparently this makes media files available as upnp directory, which I guess mvpmc can access. I think its an alternative to converting on the fly with vlc...anybody played with it?

It's an alternative but frankly I find that GB-PVR with ffmpeg is much better for playing non-supported formats. Also there really isn't enough memory free to do a good job, you need to build your own dongle for that.

That being said I did create a sample config file for use with TVersity and it is on my web page at mvpmc.org

TVersity is great for transcoding on the fly when you access Internet media. Having GBPVR generate files in a directly supported format is the best choice. It seems to me that GBPVR's direct support for the MVP is a much better solution than attempting to access that same content via UPnP (TVersity or whatever).

but if mvpmc/gbvpr could act as a upnp renderer, it might be possible to play music in sync on 2 mvpmc/gbpvr instances using cidero (http://www.cidero.com/), which sounds very appealing to me. Cidero is a upnp control point that allows you to control upnp renderers. And if the renderers are of the same type even synced audio is possible.

The problem is to do it right you would have to do a full UPnP/AV Implimentation and not a FUSE/djmount implimentation, This would require alot of work. It would be a "Nice to have" feature but I'm not sure the demand is there. New Hardware like the new Popcornhour A-100 which supports UPnPAV natively (Not quite finished but getting more complete each FW Release) Is one of the targets for mvpmc ,and is future ready, seems to be the best choice since it supports pretty much every file format and supports all the HD Resolutions.
