Hello,

I have a 37" LCD 720 LG flatscreen. My GBPVR box is about 25 feet away and connected via a 50' SVGA cable I had laying around. My video card also has DVI out. I'm wondering if there would be a noticeable difference in picture quality if I got a DVI/HDMI adapter/cable and used that instead of VGA.

Anyone here have experience with that?

Thanks in advance.

I cannot tell the difference but others swear they can, personally if your happy with it stay with vga. The main reason to change is for hdcp if your tv/graphics card support it for blu ray/hd-dvd playback,

If it were noticeable I'd do it. I'd like a nicer picture but those cables are expensive and I'm sure it wouldn't be as simple as plugging it in. Other posters have had some problems with it. Plus, I'm not a "1080, 1079 just won't cut it" kinda guy. :-)

been a digital signal just buy a cheap one and try it
there is no gain in expensive cables with a digital signal if the cheap one works

A 25' DVI/HDMI cable is gonna be expensive, if only because that's such an unusual length. Best bet is to buy or borrow a normal sized dvi cable with a normal sized VGA cable, and see if there's any difference at normal lengths. The results might make it easier to decide on whether to spring for a 25' dvi.

Check out monoprice.com. They have decent prices on cables. Their DVI->HDMI cables run range from $37 down to $20 for 25 ft length.

I've purchased several cables from them and they all work fine.

Usual disclaimer...no financial interest, etc, etc, etc...

I bought some Monoprice cables as well. They work great for a fantastic price compared to name brands.

I noticed a difference when using a DVI output vs a vga output on the same card. Basically, when using VGA you are converting a digital signal to component video at the video card and then back again at the video display. Using DVI, you are sending the digital signal directily from the card to the video display. In high motion scenes, I found there were less artifacts and tearing using the DVI instead of the VGA. In a higher end card this may not be as much of an issue. I was using a Geforce FX5200.
