I haven't been around much lately... lurking and reading but not posting.

Anyway, I wanted to show my latest project, its not much and really wasn't much work, but its something that the people around here will like. If sub reads it, he'll probably tell me to get a real machine for it... but the cost was right! Smile

Let me know what you think... either good or bad. Smile

so let me see if I understand the scope your project correctly.

1. you got an old pc and
2. you put it in your kitchen

Is that it? :-)
(nice way to use old gear)

Thanks for the Digital Picture Frame info - interesting.

hey it does the job...so have you tried to upgrade the processor? if it could take a 700mhz or so it might be able to do client...[depending on video chip]

would be nice to look up recipe's and stuff on the web...baby monitor..[webcam]
intercom... all sorts of stuff...
but i bet you'll use it mostly for music..Big Grin
use the client and maybe you can use the visualizations at least..Smile
[and i think the moviewiz plugin can play with vlc...!]

I tried to upgrade a processor on an old machine of mine that had a PII 450Mhz processor but the problem I found was that they are no longer produced and are just about as expensive to get an old PII 800Mhz as it was for a brand new 3Ghz Pentium. So to me it wasn't worth it. That was a year or two ago so you may not even be able to find an upgradable processor.

I would try a minimal Linux distro with firefox.
Maybe DSL or TinyMe.

It would be a live CD so no HD worries.

that is my plan anyways as i'm looking to do the same thing with an old 14" LCD panel & an even older 450mhz micro ATX system.

I'll find out if it has the chops soon enough.

I agree, my guess is it will be used mostly for music. Though I did stream some tv to it the other day and it was fine.

gEd, you missed a step. I installed VLC too. Smile LoL

Haven't tried a processor upgrade, its honestly not worth the time and hassle to me. It does what I need it to do... and if my wife likes that much that she wants it faster... then that will be a new project. Big Grin

whhhoooooohooooo :-D

With a decent pair of PC speakers/ small sub, it'll make a good kitchen music machine.

They have finally brought out a gizmo I could use in my kitchen with all the features I have been looking for.

Now I just need to wait a year or 2 for the price to fall....
