You need to go to the following:

Whenever I try the webserver I get the login screen. I enter name and password and it just returns to the login screen. There is black text in the top left corner that says "Error finding config.xml"

Any help much appreciated

Thanks for the help, it was the firewall. I disabled it temporarily and it worked OK, at least from a different PC in another part of the house.

Anyone any ideas what settings to make in Zonealarm and how much of a risk is it opening this up for external access?

Thanks

This is up to you to decide. I think its minimal risk. Cassini is the embedded web server, so you may want to so some research into it. Alternatively, you could host the web site on IIS if it makes you feel more comfortable. Another option is to use Apache with proxy pass.

related question: Is it a bad idea to setup access to the GBPVR web service to the external internet?

Also, the only way I have found to get this to work is to disable ZoneAlarm completely. I would prefer it allow requests to port 7647, but I can't see how to set that (maybe I need the pro version).

Any tips or advice. I would be nice to be able to add recordings from work.

Can you tell ZA to allow incoming HTTP requests? If so (and assuming you aren't already running a Web server on your machine),  just configure GB-PVR to listen on port 80 instead of 7647. I think you can change the port number in Config.exe.
