I ran graphedit on a standard definition video file (.mpg) and I get this:

show->mpeg2 demux->Cyberlink(PDVD7)->Video renderer

on the video portion which is what I expected.

Then I ran DVR-MS file through it and get this:

show->ffdshow->video renderer

What gives? What codec is it really using? Gspot gives me the same thing.

My goal was to play around with the codec so I can keep changing them until I find a stable one to play 1080i files on it. However, there's no .DVR-MS file type in ffdshow.

I've been told that DVR-MS is really mpeg. If that's true, how come it doesn't show up in any of these tools. And how can I change the codec if it feeds into ffdshow and goes into that black hole?

HELP!:eek:

A DVR-MS is just an MPEG2 file, but contains some additional meta data.

It might be worth uninstalling ffdshow. This codec has all sorts of complex logic that controls which situations it gets used in, and I find it can often get in the way of other decoders being used.

THANKS SUB, Y.T.M.!! (You The Man)!!

I didn't know exactly how to uninstall ffdshow so I disabled it in the config. After this everything started falling into place. Apparently ffdshow was getting in the way of dvr-ms for some reason. It wasn't doing this with mpeg2 files, just the dvr-ms ones.

Once it was out of the way, I worked my way through the different codecs. Intervideo seemed to be the best one for the dvr-ms 1080i files but I still had stuttering (but it was the best of the bunch). Well I walked away and left PVRX2 running and came back 2 hours later. This time everything was PERFECT! NO DROP FRAMES! It seems that since I kept turning PVRX2 on and off, there must have been some update or some other process running that was sucking down the CPU at the same time and it finished while I was out.

I even played a 1080P .m2t file (full HD) with no problems!

THANKS!
