I've been a user of GB-PVR for about 8 months and recently updated windows xp. (May or may not be related.) My MVP no longer connects to my computer. Near as I can figure, the MediaMVP server has gone missing. The shortcut I'd created points to nothing. Everything works fine on using GB-PVR on my computer, but no server is found. The MVP does find the IP address. I've tried installing the new 10209 version, uninstalling all versions (though I don't think this is working, I get an error) and reinstalling. Right now I've got it working fine on my computer but no server. I did try using the Server Checker Utility: it didn't find the server.
Thanks for any help.

Have you set the number of servers to autostart on the 'mvp' tab of the config app to 1 or more?

Firewall? Windows XP Firewall. I think the process is called pxrx2 for the mvp server, so this will need to be allowed on the firewall (not sure what port specifically).

Yes I did set the autostart to 1. I'll check on the firewall.

Actually, now that I think of it, I have no idea how to check the firewall.

If your computer is not internet facing - or if you can turn your internet off if it is internet facing.

For XP
Start
Control Panel
Windows Firewall
Turn it of

Remember you machine is unprotected from the internet at this point. But do this to test the problem. if at this point in suddenly works then turn the firewall back on, then have a look on this forums for the windows firewall settings/ports.

Because my machine at home is not facing the internet, I have the firewall turned off.

That fixed it! Thanks for you help psycik (and sub). I've added pvrx2 as an exception and turned the firewall back on. We'll see if that solves it.
