I have nothing on it other than the MB, HD and power supply. I'll try disabling or unplugging the ethernet connection. It's not bothering me too much anymore because I found out that the S3 suspend mode works like a champ, so this won't be on unless we are using it. I was afraid that it was going to be like our server which is on 24/7 because the server doesn't like hibernate/sleep modes...just won't do it.

I'll post back later to let you know about disabling the ethernet. The only other thing that it might be (but I doubt it) would be the VFD and IR modules that came with the case. Either that or the p/s.

edit: case is an Ahanix 303 case

yea, vfd's are known to make the high pitched whine..[it's like a small tv tube]
it's usually a bad power to them tho..so i'd check the p/s cuz the new board might suck the juice more and p/s might not be able to handle all of it..
[plus you mentioned the whine got worse with use]

i heard those boards take a lot of juice somewhere..so a 400W or better is probably a good idea...[don't go above 500 tho, pure waste + heat]

try taking power off vfd and see if whine doesn't stop..and either try a diff. power plug for vfd, or a diff. power supply if it helps.....

vfd's are sensitive to voltage drops...squeeeel Smile

That's a good suggestion, but I'll have to wait to do it until I switch out the exhaust fan. It's in "trials" in the bedroom right now. Also, when I closed the case up finally and I sat away from it, it's not quite as noticeable.

Added a new post in the documentation section outlining most of what I did to build this rig. Link here: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=34906
