I've sent a note off to Hauppauge, but I thought I'd post here as well incase someone has any insight on what's going on:
-------------------------------------------
I picked up a HVR-1600 from Frys a few months back and have been quite pleased with both the analog and QAM tuners. Both the SD and HD channels scanned and worked great with the ATSC/QAM tuner.
Unfortunately, about two weeks ago, the ability to pickup the HD QAM channels stopped working. The SD channels on the QAM tuner seem to work fine. I attempted to re-scan thinking that maybe the cable company moved them, but no luck.
I also use GBPVR and tried it's scanner. No avail there either.
While trying to troubleshoot the problem, I made sure there was a good connection to the ATSC connection with my cable by removing and replacing the coax on the HVR-1600. Surprisingly, the channel came up when I connected the cable. I changed to another channel, and once again it would not tune. I disconnected, then reconnected the cable to the HVR-1600 and once again the channel came up.
At this point, the only way to get a HD QAM channel to come in, is to:
- Tune to the channel (it comes up with a blank screen)
- Unscrew the coax cable from the HVR-1600
- Re-attach the cable (while still tuned to the channel)
- As soon as a coax connection is re-made, the channel comes up.
When going thru this manual process for each HD channel change, consistently the channel comes up fine.
Thinking this had something to do with the cables, I've attached one of my TVs that has built-in QAM tuner, and it has no problems pulling up these same channels.
It looks like something has gone wrong with the HVR-1600. Any ideas?
