When adjusting the output sizes in the analog recording settings between 720, 480, 352, and 320 pixels between recordings, why is their no discernible difference in recorded size? Is the output size completely controlled by the hardware encoding in my hauppauge 1800 thus bypassing the sizes and if so can it be changed through registry changes? Changing the bitrates has discernible effects on recording quality but the sizes never seem to change.

Thanks,

These settings only have an effect on the analog side of things. For digital, the resolution, bitrate, and resulting file size, are all decided by the broadcaster and not effected by any GB-PVR settings.

Some analog cards dont honor requests to change the video resolution. I'm not sure if the 1800 does or not. It should honor any changes of bitrate though. If you do a couple of recordings at drastically different bitrates, then post the GBPVRRecordingService.exe-native.log I'll take look.

You could also use something like GSpot to examine the particulars of the recording to determine if your settings were used.

I realize this is an old thread, but I am experiencing an issue similar to what is happening here. I have a dedicated video box which has run GBPVR on XPx86 for the last two years with a pair of 1600s. As the computer had only a PCIX1 slot open and not a regular PCI, I moved a HVR-1800 I had been using for digital only on another system, yielding 2 1600s and 1 1800 in the same box. I have a number of shows I always record at the lowest bitrate setting I have configured, 2100-4500kB video bit rate and 192k audo. The two 1600s I have installed honor the bit rate, but when I look at the files on disk, the ones recorded by the 1800 are much bigger. When I open them in MediaCoder or VideoReDo, the 1600 created files have the expected video bit rate, but the 1800 always has the same bit rate, ~4600kB, and the audio is something like 320k not 192k.

I am also having a similar issue with an HVR-2250 I installed to backfill the moved 1800 as the system I wanted to put the 2250 had RAM banks obstructing installation and the 1800's card was an inch shorter. The HVR-2250 is installed on Win7 x86 with UAC disabled and is working great for ATSC, except for not honoring the bit rates set, works for analog as well.

I have installed the latest drivers from the Hauppauge website versus the ones which came on the CD included with the 1600s from 2 years ago. Does anyone have any ideas?
