Hello everyone,
I am in the process of putting together a Media Centre based upon GBPVR, I have seen the spec' for the Blackgold BGT-3500 tuner card which has, amongst other things, an analog, (component) input.
The spec seems to indicate that the component input will be encoded to MPEG-2 by an on board hardware encoder.
Whilst this card is not listed in the 'capture card' list, Do you consider that it could be used by GBPVR?
Also, if the card is suitable, do you consider that the remote control sold by the same company, would be compatible with GBPVR usa as well?

The website for these products is: http://shop.blackgold.tv

Thanks in advance.

To be honest, I dont think it'll work with GB-PVR. GB-PVR only currently works with tuner/svideo/composite inputs. There would need to be changes to GB-PVR to support a component input, but its not practical to do this without a sample device. Unfortunately I dont know anyone at Blackgold to ask for one.

You would not gain much by using the component instead of SVIDEO. It will not encode in HD formats:
Quote:Encoding resolutions: PAL up to 576P 50Hz. NTSC up[ to 480P 60Hz

Whurlston, hi.
Thanks for your reply, I am a broadcast tv engineer and I am trying to get the best quality of HDD recordings to scrap my ageing VHS machine! I am not interested, (as yet) in HD tv, (mainly because there are virtually no channels a/v here yet, except for sat') any form of analog encoded video, (PAL or S-Video) produces artifacts which detract from the original and should be eliminated. The only way that I can receive the choice of channels that I want is via a cable STB, and this has either PAL or component outputs.
So you see I am a 'bit stuck', recording analog encoded video is not far enough removed from the old VHS machine.

So you're saying you don't want my speech on video quality? Big Grin

Seriously though. If you can build a DirectShow filter graph for the component inputs on the card, there is a "Graph Recorder" plugin that you may be able to use: http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Plugin/GraphRecorder

If not, there is the Hauppauge HD PVR that is due out any day now. It is supported in GBPVR. More expensive though.

ALL of your comments are well received! Thank you for your help. I will probably buy the card anyhow, at least I should be able to get the two DVB-T tuners working. The component thing may have to become a bit of a 'project'!
Thanks again.

May I suggest the Pinnacle 3010ix dual DVB-T tuner (it also has analogue but you cant use that in GBPVR). It cost less than 20 quid uses the same chipset and drivers as the GDI3520 blackgold and it works a treat in GBPVR.

If you need DVB-S then there is also the Pinnacle 7010i which is dual DVB-T, dual DVB-S and dual analogue (again I don't think the analogue works in GBPVR). Although I have not used this card again apparently it uses the same chipset and drivers as the Blackgold BGT3540.

If you have got a PCI express slot why pay more?

Bathman,
Thanks for the info, however the motherboard I am , (trying) to use only has 1 x PCI slot, so I am a little restricted in what I can fit.
The Pinnacle cards do look good value though.
Thanks again.
