Here's my history:
I set up GBPVR with a HVR-1600 on an inadequate system. Everything seemed to work right in terms of channel changing, recording etc. except that when I tried to play back HD content the computer would lock up and have to be hardbooted. I got rid of that computer and now I have a better system (marginally), but I believe it is adequate for HD. However, I am having different issues that I didn't have before. Likely these are configuration problems, but I am having a hard time troubleshooting them. I have searched, but I am not coming up with results that help.
Here are my problems:
I can't record. When I try to record from Live TV the record screen comes up, but I am unable to initiate the recording. I can hit cancel and exit the screen, but hitting the record button does nothing. Sometimes when I try this it kicks me out of live TV and when I try to get back into live TV it tells me that the tuner is currently unavailable - but doesn't give me the option to watch the program being recorded. It's like the tuner goes to sleep.
On a possibly related note. I also have the WinTV software that came with the tuner. In WinTV I can watch live TV, and I can record live TV, but when I try to play back the recordings in Windows Media Player there is no picture, only sound.
Is this a decoder issue? Does it have to do with my hard drive setup? I have two hard drives - both on the same IDE channel, one is set as master and one is slave. At first I set up my TV buffer to the C: drive and recordings to the other hard drive, but in an effort to troubleshoot I switched both to the C: drive. No change in performance.
Here are the specs of my setup:
XP Professional - SP2
P4 2.8 HT
1gb RAM
FX 5200 (purevideo is not currently installed - but I have the free trial available)
HDD 1 - 7200 rpm 40gb IDE
HDD 2 - 5400 rpm 60gb IDE
HVR 1600 (using OTA ATSC only - no QAM or NTSC currently being used)
Sorry for the lengthy post. Please help me if you can.
