Yesterday I decided (foolishly as it turned out) to upgrade my MVP server as I had sold the CPU out of it to another GB user.

I upgraded the CPU from a Sempron 3000 to an Athlon 3200 at the same time I added another 512mb of RAM that had come out of my test/development PC when I upgraded it a while ago & upgraded the PSU from a 400W to a nearly new 450W that I had in a lower powered PC. When I fired up the server it said it had found errors on the D: drive (my main recording drive) which is a partition on 2x 320Gb SATA drives setup as RAID JOB & repaired the master table (or something like that can't remember the exact wording) & a few files then went into "Correcting errors in Volume Bitmap" & has been doing so for about 16hours now. BTW running XP sp2.

I guess my question is do I just let it keep repairing or is it basically a waste of time, I would really like to recover the 550+Gb of recordings off the drive if I could.

bad luck

This is a really long shot....

If you have an athlon XP chip, maybe you have an NF7-s mobo or some other variant with the nforce2 chipset?

If so, you should set the EXT-P2P's Discard Time in the BIOS to 1ms (and not 30us) and try again.

I hope you get it sorted.

Yep a real pain in the ass! But the WAF will go up heaps when I get going again as just 1 night without it & she remembers what it is like to watch normal TV with the rubbish that is on & ADDS & more ADDS Smile

Unfortunately it's a Foxconn K8S 755A (SiS chipset) & I can't see anything manual for a bios setting for EXT-P2Ps

Update: after 40hrs of "Correcting errors in Volume Bitmap" I decided to install a 60Gb IDE drive I had laying around doing nothing, clean install of XP Home & was able to copy off about 450Gb of my recordings.....clean install of GB, resetup of the Raid & reformat & we are back up & running & it seems to be more responsive & stable than before as well...still got to install anti virus, firewall & copy most of the 450GB back on this week hopefully.

I don't know if letting it repair for longer would have recovered more but 40hrs of not knowing what was going on was all I could handle...not to mention no PVR was a right royal pain!
