I installed IRsuite 1.4.2 RC1 and tried to run "Input Service Configuration" but it immediately gave a Windows error "Input Service Configuration has stopped working." So I closed it and uninstalled it and installed version 1.0.4.1 and it had the same error.

Any suggestions? I am using Vista x64 if that has anything to do with it.

I was wondering if someone using winlirc for GBPVR IR blasting would be interested in updating the wiki with the details on how to do IR blasting. There is a good write up on IR recieving but not blasting. (well I couldn't find one)

Back in 2005 I posted some code (IR.zip) and instructions on how I was using WinLIRC’s TCP/IP server port for IR blasting. This method by passed the need for any 'interact with desktop' settings. See http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=3048

But since then I've migrated to a PVR150 with built in IR blasting so didn't continue to use winlirc.

However I still read other user posts with similar issues and so maybe a consolidated wiki instruction set for IR blasting using winlirc complete with any downloads would be a good start. A winlirc method might also be usable for those with multiple PVR cards where only one blaster functions.

Any interest out there among those using winlirc IR blasting to write up a section on winlirc blasting on the wiki?

In my opinion WinLIRC works as advertised if one follows the instructions for installing, configuring, and running it. The difficulties are probably due universally to the "transmit.exe" function using the clipboard to effect the interaction between the application and the blaster, and the fact that it only accepts one digit at a time. Running WinLIRC as a service might alleviate the clipboard problem, I don't know because I never had the problem (I was using WinLIRC with a different HTPC program). The fundamental problem with the single digit limitation is that everyone codes around it in a way that pops up a dos box or requires one to install blah blah blah runtime environment. Who wants to do that every time they want to turn on a feature basic to any HTPC. Doesn't anyone code in C or C++? If someone that knows C or C++ would just code a TCP/IP based multidigit "transmit.exe" once and compile it for native Win32 everyone could use it. Or do it in AutoIT. I am not a programmer, or I would have done it myself 2 - 3 years ago. This frustration with WinLIRC transmit.exe was one reason I bought my MCE remote, beanbag and blasters. Maybe I need to switch to decaf.
