I record in MPEG2. Playback in GBPVR is fine. If I play back the file on my main PC then it also seems fine. However if I play it back on say my linux laptop then I occasionally get lipsync issues (out by upto a few seconds). Also similar issues on a linux based media player (MivX). And when I tried to re-encode it during an author of a DVD the resultant file had really bad sync issues. Also reauthoring to AVI, WMV had issues. Perhaps I am using a dodgy encoder?
Where do you tell GBPVR what MPEG2 encoder to use? And does anyone have a recommendation as to the best one?

Thanks in advance.

This sounds more like a linux problem than a GB-PVR problem.

GB-PVR doesnt do any encoding. For analog cards the encoding is done in hardware (usually with a Conexant MPEG2 encoder chipset). For digital devices the encoding is done by the broadcaster prior to transmission.

this is from freeview. I elected to create MPEG2 files rather than DVRMS so therefore GBPVR simply writes the stream to a file?
My PC is a WinXP and a different PC, also WinXP both convert the GBPVR created file to MPEG and screw the audio sync up badly. Gonna try a conversion on the GBPVR server itself.
The DVD author software is TMPGEnc but it doesnt matter if I convert to AVI, XVID, DIVX, WMV they all have the same screw... Gonna try an alternate authoring tool as perhaps there is a bug with that.
Thanks for the info.

The mux filter you use can have an effect on audio video sync. The 'TS Mux' and 'full ts' mux options write the original packets to disc unaltered. The other options pass the packets through their respective muxes before being written into the container format that mux produces. The unaltered packets are still contained in the data written to disk, but its wrapped in additional layers by the mux, and these can contain additional timing info. If the mux you're using causes problem, then its probably worth trying a different mux..

If you're using the Cyberlink mux, try different versions of the mux. I've had good success with the 5.0.1307 version. You need to de-register old versions first though, since you can have multiple versions installed at the same time but GB-PVR will only ever used the first one listed by MuxChecker (run it to check). Old versions of the Cyberlink were pretty bad.
