Having just installed a DVB-S card, I find that the settings I have used for some time with great success in GBPVR, are not ideal for viewing the 1080i BBC HD, and I would like to hear what others are using...
Although I want to get good BBC HD results, it is hard to change a perfectly good configuration just for it!

Some background:
My usual decoder for H264, MPCVideoDec.ax, gets terrible interlacing on any movement on BBC HD. So reluctantly I changed to CoreAVC. But even then what worked on 720p MKV files was no good - instead of 'none (hardware) for deinterlacing I had to choose weave or bob. Weave still had some interlacing on fast motion, and bob results in a better picture but the sound seriously out of sync - like five seconds! In either case, CPU usage is very high - like 70 or 80%. I also had to change the output format to RGB32, as the usual YV12 was just too dark.

So would be greatfull to know what you use.

Most people trying to view H.264 channels go with the Cyberlink or ArcSoft H.264 decoder to take advantage of H.264 accelerating video hardware. I know some have indicated MPCVideoDec.ax can also do hardware acceleration, but it never worked for me.

CoreAVC is known to have problems with DVB channels, and cant handle dynamic changes in the stream without causing corruption (a big mess when changing channels). The author has said they plan to fix it in the future.

Thank you Sub.
Core AVC is working well for me - no crashes so far! I do have the Cyberlink decoders somewhere, so will try those for hardware acceleration.
MPC HC hard. accel. has worked for me playing mpeg4 H264 files, but Hard. accel. does not work playing Mpeg2 H264 - i.e. BBC HD

Come to think of it, the Hauppauge HS S2 card comes with Cyberlink power cinema - does this have the decoders needed for HA?

H.264 is always MPEG4. I'm guessing you mean in a .mkv container vs in a .ts container?

Sorry, yes that is what i meant!
I am using the 'blend' deinterlacing option, and it does look pretty good - and the sound is in sync.
One new problem though - I cannot change the order of the tuners on the capture card config page. I am trying to move the sat card up to the middle position, but after clicking OK, there is a lot of hard drive churning, a box pops up briefly that appears to be blank, and next time I go into config the sat card is at the bottom again. The problem with this is that it always uses the sat card for channels that are present on DVB-T and DVB-S - and DVB-S uses a lower resolution for the non-HD content...

This is a fairly common problem that I'll fix one of these days.

You can get it to work properly by executing the following SQL in a tool like SQLiteSpy
Quote:update CAPTURE_SOURCE set allocation_order=oid
After this you'll be able to change the order.
