Hi,

I was wondering can anyone advise on this. I'm wondering if I can get the HD channels on Freesat (UK) using a DVB-S card, or is a DVB-S2 card required?

If I buy the much cheaper DVB-S card, will I be able to receive SD versions of the channels?

Thanks!

The only free to air HD programs at present are BBC HD, ITV HD and Luxe HD.
These are currently on DVB-S. I'm watching them with either a Pinnacle 7010x, Videomate S350 (scan today only special) or an ancient Hauppauge Nova-S

They may of course shift to S2 in future.

The Pinnacle 7010x doesn't appear in the list, the system recognises it as a 3010 which is DBT only. I'm guessing you are using the BlackGold as a proxy but can you tell me exactly how I do this?
The card is working perfectly in other apps so I don't need the driver, just the GBPVR recognition.

With mine being dead I can't check to see at the moment.
If you run filtercheck.exe in the gbpvr program directory and post what it returns in filtercheck.log we should be able to sort it out.

I'm not sure if I ran black gold drivers or not now. If I get chance I'll shove the dead card in and see if I can see which driver and config entry to use. I'm fairly sure it was only teh tuners that died, not the whole card.

Are you running Windows 7?

My 7010x works perfectly in XP (shows up as a Blackgold I think, although I can't remember if I was on the Blackgold or Pinnacle drivers), but in my limited testing with the Windows 7 RC, it will only show up as a 3010 which gives access to the DVB-T tuners only. It was working fine with -S and -T in Media Center though.

Aha - I think you've hit the nail on the head cos the last time I tried GBPVR it was in Vista but now it is in Win7. I have a dual boot HTPC and I was trying not to upset the existing DVBViewer installation on the Vista side.
Does anybody have any idea whether we will ever get Win7 support? My retail copy is about to arrive and I was hoping to say goodbye to Vista!

It's a driver thing and I'm a little disappointed with Pinnacle and their support (or lack of). I'm not sure if it still a current card, but I suppose I'll get the same with my 4000i if/when the win7 upgrade happens here.

Windows 7 detected the card fine and installed drivers for it (from Pinnacle or MS I don't know). All four tuners on it were usable in Media Center, it was just gbpvr that didn't recognise the card properly (seeing only the terrestrial tuners).

It might just need a simple BDA.ini type of file tweak (by minds greater than mine) to make it work though.

Personally, I'm not planning on moving to Windows 7 just yet, but it would be good to know everything works when I finally make the jump.

Sorry, I misunderstood. Under the system that misses the dvb-s tuners run filtercheck.exe in the gbpvr program directory and post the filtercheck.log and this should give enough info to create a new BDA.INI entry.

Sorry there are two of us!

I would add my log from FilterCheck but the forum attachment rules don't include 'log' as a valid file type! I'm probably doing something stupid! I tried changing the title to FilterCheck.txt but the forum insists on adding .log and rejecting it!
