Hello,
I'd like to know if there is a preferred way to connect a client to my server over a shared lan, without exposing writable network shares to everyone on the lan. Here's the situation. My server sits behind a linksys router on my local lan, which sits behind the apartment building's router. I'd like for someone in a different apartment to be able to connect to my gbpvr server and access recordings, etc. The client computer sits on the apartment building's router as well.
I envision opening a port on the linksys router and pointing it to my server, then telling the client my router's ip and appropriate port. The client would then be able to access stuff on the server via the gbpvr interface.
I say the network is semi-open because I'm not too worried about exposing a port to the apartment building's lan, but I wouldn't want to expose writable folder shares for any yahoo to delete at will.
Any thoughts or experience?
Thanks,
Matt

You could also use the guest access from EWA for this. Might be safer and easier to set up.

There is no way to use the built in client support without a network share.

As HtV suggested above, you could look into the EWA streaming support - its nots really the same type of solution, but might be ok for you.

AFAIR you need write access to the database directory (maybe just the database??)
