Hi sub.
as usual, i love this software. best pvr software that is out there.

i have a small problem Smile
i took an old laptop (t41) and installed it as a client.
i checked both 7967 & 7968 ports and they are open.
i can see the epg and recording so no problem there.
i can play it via filesharing and via media player so its not a decoder issue.
now here where it is wierd Smile
when i access recording i can see all the recordings and when i play one of them i get a black window with the counter running.
so i checked the logs on the client and server and i can see on the server that its starting to stream media.

now, here it is where it becomes weird.
to save space, i use the compression to xvid at 1 am option.
i can see live tv via streaming and it works great.
it is connected via 5cat lan (wifi wasnt good enough)
now if i record a tv show and watch it from the client when it is still mpg, i have no problem. i can see it and play it via the recording window.

now if i try to play a recording show that already been compressed to xvid, the windows is still black.
the logs on the server shows streaming begins but the client is not playing
would appreciate any help you can give me
thanks

streaming mode on a client only supports mpeg (i think). You have to use file sharing for other formats.
Also I've found that client mode is pretty CPU and network intensive - if it's a really old lap top and/or you want to stream other file types I'd recommend using the EWA instead. It's not quite as 'tidy' as a client, but it is just as fully featured (if not more in many ways).

OK good point! It is possible to operate a webpage with keystrokes, or set the laptop to arrow key operated mouse pointer and use it that way - but it'd take a bit of key mapping and not gonna be as nice Smile

Can you stick with file sharing mode?

from the wiki:
Using Streaming / File Sharing

* Streaming Use streaming to access the data on the server. This is the faster method but is only compatible with MPEG2 files. Playback of DivX/AVI recordings or as well as the display of SRT subtitles is not supported.
* File mode Use file sharing to access the data on the server. Slower but more versatile.

thanks
i would be more then happy to use file sharing but the streaming of TV is jitter.
if the file sharing would stream the tv better, then there will be no probelm..

i think that will be the best

I think when you play a recording/movie/whatever through the video-archive it will use filesharing anyway. I think streaming is only used for livetv and watching recordings (recordings tab). Not being able to watch avi's sounds like a decoder problem to me.
