i have an ati 3450. Using total media extreme and capturing uses about 34%....in gbpvr using the arcsoft encoder watching live tv uses about 85-90%......any ideas? also, any update on why i was having live tv trouble with live preview disabled...? I'm pretty new to gb-pvr, live preview enabled pretty much forgoes time-shifting correct?

If you playback a recording from the HD-PVR, what does the CPU look like?

No, I dont really know. It sounds like the HD-PVR wasnt producing any data, so there was no timeshift file to play.

Correct.

If i playback a recording from Total Media extreme using the total media theater its lower then 10% on average. if i playback in gbpvr using arcsoft encoder in playback its around 80%...and to add using coreavc its around 73-75%....Something cant be right somewhere...im almost beginning to think the hd-pvr really isnt meant for any kind of media center type of application. Ive tried this, sagetv, and beyond and nether seem to handle it that well at all in my case.....im wondering if it might not be "ready for prime time"....

The experience of using an HD-PVR definitely isnt going to be as smooth as you get with other well established analog and digitcal capture devices - it definitely has a few quirky things in its drivers. I'm sure this will improve over time though. That said, some people are getting decent performance and are happy with it, so I'd keep tweaking if I was you.

If you're getting 10% CPU in TME, then you'd be able to get the same in GB-PVR. GB-PVR doesnt do the playback its, instead just using directshow decoders already on your machine, exactly the same as TME does. The trick is just going to make sure you using the right combination of stuff. For example, on Vista you have to be using the EVR video renderer to get H.264 acceleration from directshow. On XP, you have to be using VMR9 or Overlay to H.264 acceleration. Some video decoders have settings for disabling hardware acceleration on a per application basis. ...etc

I enabled EVR with the Arcsoft encoder and it didnt change anything with live tv, that still doesnt work right....i tried the test file and it did lower the cpu usage down to around 10%, but i only get a green screen with audio...

try the ati avivo codec..[ATI MPEG2 decoder] it also does 264 and i would assume with hardware assist..Smile
you'll probably have to add it as a compatible 264 decoder yourself in config.xml.
["ATI MPEG Video Decoder"]
then you can select it as a decoder for h264

using dxvachecker, it says it supports h264 decoding..
am curious as i have a 3450 also..Smile
Hardware: HDHR Prime, HDPVR 1212, Raspberry pi2, VFD display w/LCDSmartie
