I am moving to a place that can only get dial-up or satellite internet, and I refuse to get satellite. So I won't be on the net much after tonight (surfing is too painful on dial-up after having broadband, this will be my third time going back to dial-up). It is also impractical downloading xmltv data for the number of channels I want via dial-up, so my PVR project will move to storage again. Thanks for letting me participate in the forums.

I know how painful it is to downgrade to dial up...

Last year when I went to Australia, that's all I had (I know I could have had faster, but)

I was building the UltraXMLTV project at the time, and pulling a xmltv file was quite painful, but not that bad. Of course I only had a few Aussie channels to contend with. Once in a while I would check out 100+ Canadian channels. It took a few minutes.

I would not give up on it...

Good luck anyways

I wonder if you have any unlimited 3G/UMTS or EDGE data plans from cell phone providers that you could use for connectivity? just a thought.

I guess it depends how badly you want internet.

Hugesnet costs $250 up front +$60 month.

Or no up front & $80 month.

That's just too expensive.

My DSL costs $20 / month.

I personally would just deal with dial up.

Why not satellite? Micronet does one-way satellite for £20 a month, 1mbs and 2gb. £25 for unlimited.
Dialup would send me to sleep in no time nowadays.
