I can play any xVid, divX or DV file without any problems at all on my lo-tech system. But the mpegs that my WinTV USB2 card generates are very stuttered when played on the specific hardware. The recordings are stored locally on the same machine that's supposed to play them (Machine data listed below)

If I however connects to the computer where the movie is located and play it on a speedier computer it works great. So it can't be the harddisk that's too slow.

I notice that the mpeg2 files my TV-card generates are rather big, almost 2G per hour. I thought this meant that the compression was less meaning that it should be less computer demanding to play them. This seams to not be the case.

Any idea on how I can solve this, are there any differense in speed between various decoders etc?

I guess one solution could be to re-encode the files to xvid. But that seems a bit overkill for tv-shows I just want to see once.

Yes. Try to find a different codec. Keep away from the ever-so-popular "codec pacs" that are out there. Since I got my pvr-350 with hardware decoding working I haven't looked much into this, but I have virtually the same setup you do (VIA EPIA 10000) and it was stuttery there too. One thing I noticed was that if I let the machine do *anything* but play the files it was unbearable (hint: do you have any filesharing going on? ;-))
I'm not always right

The Cyblink PowerDVD MPEG decoder is able to take advantage of your M10000's on board MPEG accellerator hardware, and will give a minor boost to performance. Other that that, not much can be done, and machine is probably a little underpowered for the task.

Underpowered, ok. But isn't it harder for the machine to decode mpeg4 than mpeg2?

I never tried MPEG4 on M10000 when I had it, so cant talk about that aspect. I can tell you about MPEG2 on that hardware, and its "average" at best. You do need to take advantage of the on board MPEG2 accelleration. Both the PowerDVD and Intervideo WinDVD MPEG decoders will do this.

Hmm, I have used the Guardain Knot codecpack. Mainly because I get soo frustrated when I need to identify, download and install a new codec now and then when I want to see a movie. So with the Guardian Know pack all codecs was in place.

I understand this is not the best solution, so right now I'm unregister each and every directShow filter.

But then I need som good advice on which codecs I shall download and install.
