I'm relatively new to gbpvr but I had it installed and working aok (windows xp with latest fixes) with an earlier release of gbpvr (last six months) when I decided to give upgrading to gbpvr10213 a go

I backed up my config.xml and gbpvr.db3 and gave it a go - the install appeared to go aok so I got on with the config and ran into probs on the channel scan - see attached attachment.7z (a word doc) for screen images and the audit trail that was output

I then tried installing gbpvr on a completely fresh windows xp install plus latest fixes and got the exact same error - looks like an attempted red/write against protected memory?

when I put over my saved gbpvr.dv3 I was back in business - in fact I was also able to get gbpvr to work with the aborted scan channel listing which wasn't that great as I only had a limited numbers of channels but then, as mentioned, my original gbpvr.db3 with the complete channel set and gpbvr10213 coexist quite contentedly

gbpvr is a great application and I'm more than happy to provide any other info required, run any tests etc - I'm out of here for a few days as of tomorrow a.m. but I will respond to any emails on my return - thanks in advance

It's not usually wise to copy over a previous database version as things can change and an upgrade will make any changes required to the database layout.

re the scan crashes - have you checked the survival guide, in particular post nr 7? http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=35529

thanks martin123 - I came across post 7 after my initial post - a case of my not having rt*m on my part to which I plead guilty - I gave the patch a go and at first whilst it stopped the scan crashing, it wasn't picking up the full channel set so I left off until 1900 local time and gave it another go and the missing channels turned up - some of my local channels don't clock in until 1900

one further question re putting over databases, files etc - I saw on the download page the advice to back up one's config.xml and gbpvr.db3 - if one isn't to put them back over then why back them up? is it possible to import from these two files? thanks again

Glad it worked.

I think it is mainly if you want to reinstall the previous version in case of problems. (I just copy the gbpvr program directory and use the whole lot as a backup. I don't think there is much, if anything stored in the registry.
