Hi Everyone, I've spent the last several hours stuck on something that has got to be really obvious... but I just can't seem to get it figured out.

I'm trying to get a Hauppauge HVR-2250 working with GBPVR by adding the the appropriate information to the bda.ini file. Unfortunately, it seems to have no effect and I just can't get the "Hauppauge HVR-2250" option to appear in the list of device types (in the config program, of course).

This is in Vista-64, if that makes any difference.

Does anyone have any idea what I might be doing wrong?

It might be vista's file protection getting in the way.

Delete the "c:\users\<your account>\appdata\local\virtualstore\program files\devnz" directory, then run notepad with "run as administrator" then edit the bda.ini file and try again.

Thanks for getting back so quickly, Sub. Turns out that my initial problem was that the lines for the ini file that I blindly copied were labled "Hauppauge HVR-1250MCE" instead of "2250" - which is why I kept missing it.

That being the case, I still can't seem to get it working. When I press the button to "Map digital channels to EPG channels" I get a message saying "GB-PVR was unable to start the BDA device"...

I will continue to twiddle with it. Thanks again!

What exactly did you add to your bda.ini file? If you didnt add a HVR2250 section, then its not going to be able to recognise your card.

I copied and pasted exactly what I found in this thread on the HVR-2250. I didn't read the contents of what I was copying and didn't realize it was labeled as an "HVR-1250".

Now that I have altered the label and selected the QAM version from the "Device Type:" menu I am trying to figure out where to go from here. I just reinstalled the drivers for the tuner card just be be sure I didn't screw them up with all the experimenting I've been doing... Still works in Vista Media Center (analog) so I will assume that's not the problem.

It sounds like several people have been able to make this work with no problems at all. I guess I'll go back to the documentation and try to figure out what I'm missing.

You can just use a definition for another card and rename it.

The definition for the 2250 is:

[Hauppauge HVR-2250]
TUNING_TYPE=ATSC
FILTER_TUNER=Hauppauge WinTV-7164 BDA ATSC/QAM Tuner
FILTER_CAPTURE=Hauppauge WinTV-7164 BDA Digital Capture
PIN_TUNER_IN=Input0
PIN_TUNER_OUT=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_IN=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_OUT=MPEG2 Transport

[Hauppauge HVR-2250 (QAM)]
TUNING_TYPE=ATSC
TUNING_SPECIAL=2
FILTER_TUNER=Hauppauge WinTV-7164 BDA ATSC/QAM Tuner
FILTER_CAPTURE=Hauppauge WinTV-7164 BDA Digital Capture
PIN_TUNER_IN=Input0
PIN_TUNER_OUT=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_IN=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_OUT=MPEG2 Transport
