I'm noticing that sometimes in my recordings, the top half of the picture is slightly off from the bottom half of the picture. It's like it got cut in half and one half offset by a tiny amount to the right or left. It seems to happen mostly with scenes involving a lot of motion.

Is there a way around this? I saw something about FSE, but I'm not even sure what that is, or why I would want to use it.

It's not horribly annoying, but it makes me feel like I'm watching a VHS tape or something.

Thanks!

Yes could be. It shows up a few different ways - often as a diagonal tear, but it can also be straight across.

You could try selecting the 'VMR9 Fullscreen Exclusive' (FSE) video render to see if it makes any difference. It is less prone than the other renderers to video tearing.

This can also happen if your video card is just not able to supply bits at the speed required. I'm not 100% sure a ATI AIW 9000 is fast enough.

Thanks, Sub. Are there any limitations with FSE I should be aware of? I think I'm just using VMR9 right now.

And yeah, that's an old card. I can imagine it might not be up to the task.

in direct 3d settings for your video card try setting it to "force wait for vertical sync" or similar
