I don't think you are doing anything wrong. The logs seem to show that GBPVR is understanding it should show a 4:3 picture, but just like on mine, it doesn't.

From your logs
Code:
1-05 22:09:23.781    VERBOSE    setSourceAspectRatio() using autoAspectRatio
2008-11-05 22:09:23.781    VERBOSE    video resolution is 544 x 576
2008-11-05 22:09:23.781    VERBOSE    source is 4:3

I think there may be a problem with how GBPVR is displaying 4:3 programs.

I did some more work with GBPVR, and I think that when a 4:3 program is seen by GBPVR, it selects the PillarBox AspectRatioMode by default...and in the 16x9 shape it is inaccurate.
What I did was correct the PillarBox mode for 16x9\

Original: <AspectRatioMode name="PillarBox" ratio="0.08,0,0.92,1" />
Correct: <AspectRatioMode name="PillarBox" ratio="0.125,0,0.875,1" />

Calculations: 16x9 -> 4x3, we want to use the full height, so 3x=9 therefore x=3, so the width becomes 4x which equals 12. 12/16 = 3/4, so we will use 3/4 of the width which means we need to remove 1/4 or 0.25 of the entire screen width. 0.25/2 = 0.125. So width start is 0.125 and width end is 1-0.125 or 0.875

Full corrected values for easy replacement in your config.xml
Code:
<AspectRatioModes shape="4x3">
    <AspectRatioMode name="Auto" ratio="0,0,0,0" />
    <AspectRatioMode name="Fill" ratio="0,0,1,1" />
    <AspectRatioMode name="LetterBox" ratio="0,0.125,1,0.875" />
    <AspectRatioMode name="Remove LetterBox" ratio="0,-0.125,1,1.125" />
    <AspectRatioMode name="Center Cut" ratio="-0.05,-0.17,1.04,1.17" />
    <AspectRatioMode name="PillarBox" ratio="0.08,0,0.92,1" />
  </AspectRatioModes>
  <AspectRatioModes shape="16x9">
    <AspectRatioMode name="Auto" ratio="0,0,0,0" />
    <AspectRatioMode name="Fill" ratio="0,0,1,1" />
    <AspectRatioMode name="Remove LetterBox" ratio="0,-0.125,1,1.125" />
    <AspectRatioMode name="PillarBox" ratio="0.125,0,0.875,1" />
  </AspectRatioModes>
  <AspectRatioModes shape="16x10">
    <AspectRatioMode name="Auto" ratio="0,0,0,0" />
    <AspectRatioMode name="Fill" ratio="0,0.05,1,0.95" />
    <AspectRatioMode name="PillarBox" ratio="0.08,0,0.92,1" />
    <AspectRatioMode name="Remove LetterBox" ratio="0,-0.125,1,1.125" />
  </AspectRatioModes>

sub, what do you thing, should we update this in the installer?

Also, I am not sure about the PillarBox setting for a 4x3 screen...should we really have that? How does Auto work on those screens when it comes to playing back 4x3 cotent does it select Fill when the ratio equals the display type selected?

Wow that's quite an effort. I have to rush off to work now but I'll definitely look into this when I return. Typical isnt it? Smile

Ok, I tried to edit my config.xml to change those two numbers and it corrupts things. I can't start config or pvrx2 without it crashing with an error. I put back the original version of config.xml and it works ok again.

I must be missing something. Such a small change and it dies on me...

Any help?

glad to hear it worked for you too...I was getting a little paranoid as I started trying out the EVR renderer as well and found it doesn't like overscan, at least in WinXP.

Anyways, I am glad that you pressed the issue as it made me much happier with my setup too...I always kindof noticed that things were a little wide Smile.
