Simple question about .ts file

I start to recorder ".ts" files instead of ".mpg" and I sow that ".ts" files are 1,5-2 times bigger than ".mpg". If I remux ".ts" files in to ".mpg" the files became smaller. Is it a "must" or it's a bug?

I think the .ts files actually contain other information rather than just the single video/audio stream. Like they can contain multiple audio tracks etc.

If you use .ts I guess that's just the price you pay. I doubt it's a bug.
