What is the best way to monitor CPU utilization during playback and recording?

With ffdshow it's so easy to use the the OSD to get the CPU utilization on screen but are there any other codec independent tools that can do something similar?

Thanks!

Task manager, Performance tab. Right click the Windows bar at the bottom of the screen.

Yeah sure I know about the Performance tab in Task manager, I was thinking of something more along the lines of something like the OSD that I could have overlay on top of GBPVR.

Ah, I misunderstood what you meant by "codec independent". I believe the Haali renderer will do it but GBPVR does not support that renderer.

Found a suitable way to do what I wanted.

I have using the GPL opensource tool that you can find here:
http://www.ipi.fi/~rainy/legacy.html

I cobbled together a quick down and dirty skin to give me an always on top overlay with my CPU utilization. So far working well.

Attached is a zip file with rainmeter, the skin, and an ini file. Just unzip and run Rainmeter.exe
